Today, Wednesday 21, we did a videocall session with Taipei, because we are doing a global project called Global Scholars.
We was talking about different themes. My favourite one was started because I formulated the question “What is the most important historical event in Taiwan?”. She told to our that Taipei was originally populated by natives of the Ketagalan tribe, but historically it was populated initially by the first generations of Han Chinese of the Ming Dynasty in the Age of Discovery.
The first Europeans to arrive on the island were the Portuguese, followed closely by the Spaniards. However, it was Spain that formed a government in the place that did not extend beyond the now district of Aguadulce, where it had erected a fortress that by then became one of the bases for the activities of Spain in Asia during a period of time. Around 1662, Zheng Chenggong, “The Destroyer of Taiwan”, advanced to the north of Taiwan to the forces of Holland and managed to reach Aguadulce and Keelung, forcing the Spaniards and Dutch to leave the island and initiating a wave of Chinese migrations .
It was funny because I learned a lot of things, and I want to repeat, but with New York.
